Scott Cooksey started tattooing in 1995 in the shops of Dallas' Deep Ellum, and opened Lone Star Tattoo in 2005. In between, he spent part of every year on the road — guest spots at shops around the country, conventions, and a long study of the masters: Horiyoshi III, Hokusai, Sailor Jerry Collins, Bert Grimm and Don Ed Hardy, alongside Austin tattooers Dave Lum and Chris Trevino. What came out of it is American traditional and Japanese irezumi, sharpened into what some call Texas Style.
